Chivalry...

is alive and well in the hen house. Our rooster takes his role very seriously, always on the watch for potential dangers to his flock. Whenever we step into their area the rooster approaches to check us out, ready to defend his flock, but not overly aggressive. If a bird flies overhead or he hears some possible threat he sounds the alarm and the hens sprint like mad for the cover of their shelter.

When things are calm he scratches around looking for a juicy morsel. When he finds something he likes he scratches at it and seems ready to pick it up in his beak when suddenly the hens arrive, drawn by his chatty call, and he moves away in search of another tasty treat for his flock.
